Noorderkerk

This guide to Noorderkerk in Amsterdam centers on one evening in February 1941, when about 250 people gathered secretly on the square outside the church, two days after German forces had raided the Jewish Quarter and sent hundreds of young men east to concentration camps. Banned Communist Party organizers stood up that night and called for a general strike, and by morning leaflets carrying three words were spreading through the city. Stand on the south side of the church to see the plaque that marks where the square once stood at the center of it all.
