Zuiderkerk

This guide to Zuiderkerk in Amsterdam follows Rembrandt van Rijn's three visits here to bury infant children, and the building's own beginnings as Amsterdam's first purpose-built Protestant church, completed under architect Hendrick de Keyser in 1611. It traces the tower's bells, cast by the Hemony brothers in 1656, forward to a far harsher use the church was put to three centuries later. Look up at the tower as you listen for the bells that still ring today.
