Taipei Zoo

This guide to Taipei Zoo follows Lin Wang, an elephant captured in Burma in 1943 who hauled army supplies down the Burma Road before settling here with his mate Ma Lan. It centers on the 1986 move to this zoo's Muzha site, when keepers spent a morning trying to crate an elephant who had other plans, and the standoff that followed once he arrived confused at his new home. Sixty-five other animals rode south that day in a parade watched by roughly three hundred thousand people, with Lin Wang nowhere among them.
