Traditional Textile Center of Cusco

This guide to the Traditional Textile Center of Cusco starts with the chakana, a stepped cross woven into the cloth in front of you, and the three worlds Andean weavers say it represents. In 2006, weavers from this center traveled to a museum in Arequipa to study and reproduce the garments of Juanita, a girl sacrificed on a mountain summit roughly five centuries ago and preserved in ice, reviving a looping technique nobody alive had used in generations.
