National Museum of Denmark

This guide to the National Museum of Denmark in Copenhagen centers on the Egtved Girl, a Bronze Age burial found in 1921 near the village of Egtved, whose skeleton had dissolved into a stain in the soil but left behind hair, fingernails and clothing pressed into a hide. It traces what tree-ring dating placed her burial at, in the summer of 1370 BCE, wrapped in wool and bronze bracelets, with a small child's cremated bones at her feet. Her reconstructed coffin and clothing stand in the museum's galleries today.
