Cementerio Central

This guide to Cementerio Central in Bogotá opens beneath the ten-meter entrance gate, where a stone Chronos rests a hand on an hourglass and lifts a scythe. It follows Colombo Ramelli, the stonemason who carved the figure in 1906 after inheriting his father's Bogotá workshop, and architect Julian Lombana, who designed the portal beneath it a year or two earlier. Look for the Latin line carved into the stone pilasters as you pass through the gate.
