Cholon

This guide to Cholon in Ho Chi Minh City reaches back to the 1770s, when Tay Son rebels burned a Chinese trading post upriver and its survivors fled here, only to face a massacre of more than ten thousand ethnic Chinese in 1782. The survivors rebanked the muddy riverside and rebuilt anyway, and the market they raised there thrived for decades on rice, fish and salt before a fire changed everything again.
