Lummus Park

This guide to Lummus Park in Miami Beach follows brothers John and James Lummus, each a former mayor, who in nineteen twelve held the deed to a stretch of prime oceanfront and chose to sell it to the young town for a small down payment rather than building it into private estates. Historians call the deal one of the best any city government ever struck. The ten blocks named for them were later patterned after Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana promenade, with lifeguard towers striped like little Deco cakes.
