South Pointe Park

This guide to the fishing pier at South Pointe Park in Miami Beach follows its life from a 1920s neighborhood pier moved and rebuilt here in 1984, when a local historian called it the hangout of all hangouts for teenagers, retirees, and everyone watching freighters slide past. It then turns to 2004, when the city locked the gate, and the decade that followed as the wood grayed and the regulars who used to know each other by name stopped coming.
