This guide to MIT in Boston explains a twice-yearly ritual known as MIThenge, when the setting sun lines up with the eight hundred twenty five foot Infinite Corridor's east-west axis and briefly fills the hallway with light. Students, parents and professors pack the stairwells to watch, and earth sciences professor Richard Binzel calls it a moment when the heavens and MIT seem to align. Nobody built the corridor for this; the alignment went unnoticed for decades before it became a tradition.
