Xiaoyoukeng Recreation Area

This guide to Xiaoyoukeng Recreation Area follows a Qing scholar named Yu Yonghe, sent in 1697 to gather sulfur from Taiwan's mountains after a gunpowder fire on the mainland. It traces his overland march north from Tainan, against friends who warned he was walking to his death, to what he found at the edge of this dormant volcano.
