Fado Museum

This guide to the Fado Museum in Lisbon starts with the 1999 death of Amália Rodrigues, the singer who carried fado to more than seventy countries, then traces the art form back to Alfama's sailors and dockworkers in the early 1800s. It follows the museum itself, opened in a former water-pumping station, through Amália's costumes and letters and José Malhoa's 1910 painting O Fado.
