Holy Trinity Church

This guide to Holy Trinity Church in Kraków opens on a summer afternoon in 1850, when fire tore through the old city and brought the great stone vault over the nave crashing down onto six hundred years of pews and altars. It reaches back to the Dominican friars who arrived from Bologna in 1222 to found the church, survived Mongol raiders burning it decades later, and buried a Kraków prince near the altar around 1289. Look up at the sacristy chapel built for the order's own founder, a friar later declared a saint, whose remains rest there beneath a Baroque monument.
