Chowrasta Morning Market

This guide starts with two iron figures on the market wall, one bent under a load of bricks, one standing free behind a stall, telling the story of Indian convicts shipped to build Fort Cornwallis and what became of them once their sentences ended. This crossroads market, an Urdu word for four roads meeting, was once nicknamed the South Indian Market, and the current two-storey hall replaced an 1890 market building that stood here for seventy years.
