Iglesia Cristo Rey

This guide to Iglesia Cristo Rey in Cancún opens in 1971, when the city was barely a year old and a wooden shed stood here for the road crews building the first hotels. It follows architect Pedro Ramírez Vázquez's 1974 redesign, from the bamboo roof filtering Caribbean light to the glazed cross cut into the altar wall, and the parish's place beside the workers' dining halls of Infratur. Look up at the woven roof before you look toward the cross.
