Slat Al Azama Synagogue

This guide to the Slat Al Azama Synagogue in Marrakesh's Mellah opens after 1492, when Sephardic refugees fleeing Spain reached the city and asked to pray alongside the established Jewish community, and were turned away. It follows the megorashim, as these Spanish exiles were known, as they built their own synagogue and earned a sharper local nickname for it. You'll notice the courtyard's unusual layout, with wooden benches facing each other rather than the ark, along with the zellij tilework and marble ark added later.
