War Museum

This guide to the War Museum in Siem Reap centers on Suon, a guide who lost part of his leg to a landmine in 1989 and, as a boy, was conscripted into the same army that had killed his father under the Khmer Rouge. It traces how the museum's rusting MiG fighter, helicopter, tank and artillery, salvaged from a former minefield near Siem Reap, came to sit here from the early two-thousands onward. Several of the guides working the grounds are veterans of these wars themselves, and the guide invites you to ask one which machine they remember firing.
