Phare, The Cambodian Circus

This guide to Phare, The Cambodian Circus in Siem Reap starts in 1985, when French art graduate Veronique Decrop began handing paper and crayons to traumatized children in a refugee camp on the Thai border. It follows nine of her students who returned to Battambang to found a free arts school in 1995, and the decision three years later to add circus training built on trust between performers. The company pitched its tent here in Siem Reap in February 2013, a short ride from the crowds at Angkor Wat.
