Basilica di San Babila

This guide to the Basilica di San Babila in Milan opens on March nineteenth, eighteen forty-eight, when its canons stepped outside to join neighbors dragging furniture and paving stones into the street to build a barricade, right where the church now stands. It follows that crowd's march toward the Palazzo del Governo during the Cinque Giornate uprising, then reaches back to the church's own founding, said to trace to Bishop Marolus bringing relics of Saint Babylas in the fifth century. Its bell tower has collapsed once, in fifteen seventy-five, and been rebuilt since.
