Room of the Last Supper

The Room of the Last Supper on Mount Zion traces how one small hall changed hands between faiths for six centuries. The guide follows Franciscan monks who bought it in 1332 and guarded it until Ottoman soldiers expelled them in 1523, turning the Crusader-built hall into a mosque by carving a mihrab into its wall. It covers the centuries when Christians were barred from praying here, and the ground-floor cenotaph long venerated as King David's tomb. Look up at the Gothic ribs the Franciscan friars built into the ceiling.
