The Church of Our Lady of Buda Castle

This guide to the Church of Our Lady of Buda Castle traces a Madonna statue sealed behind plaster in 1541, when Ottoman rulers turned the church into a mosque known as the Great Mosque of Suleiman Han. For roughly a hundred and forty-five years, Turkish soldiers prayed here, unaware of what their own wall concealed, while a Christian army gathered outside the city through the summer of 1686.
