District III.

This guide to District III in Budapest opens in the year 228, when a Roman official named Gaius Julius Viatorinus paid for a bronze-and-reed organ as a gift to the firefighting guild he led in Aquincum, the Roman boomtown that once stood on this ground. It follows the instrument through a fire that brought down the clubhouse roof and dropped the organ into a cellar, buried for close to seventeen hundred years. An archaeologist working nearby in 1931 struck metal, and nearly four hundred pieces came out of that cellar, pipes, keys and fittings among them.
