Musée Cantini

This guide to the Musee Cantini in Marseille centers on 1941, when Andre Breton and a group of exiled surrealists were holed up in a rundown mansion outside the city, waiting on American exit visas arranged by rescue worker Varian Fry. To pass the uncertain months, the group invented a new tarot-like deck, replacing kings and queens with Geniuses and Sirens, and splitting the drawing among artists including Max Ernst and Breton's wife Jacqueline Lamba.
