Alte Utting

This guide to the Alte Utting in Munich starts on a February night in 2017, when police closed a stretch of the Autobahn so a hundred forty-four tons of steel could cross it on a truck. It follows the Utting's sixty-six years ferrying passengers across the Ammersee after her 1949 launch, her retirement in 2016, and the Munich arts collective that decided a scrapped lake steamer belonged somewhere no ship had ever been.
