Pergamon Museum. The Panorama

Am Kupfergraben 2, 10117 Berlin

Immersive painted panorama of ancient Pergamon displayed beside an original marble altar frieze.

This guide to the Pergamon Museum's Panorama follows artist Yadegar Asisi as he reconstructs the shattered frieze from the altar of ancient Pergamon, filling gaps that archaeologists never recovered with painted guesswork of his own. The panorama itself stands about thirty meters tall and roughly a hundred four meters around, stitched from thirty five strips of fabric that surround you completely. In the same room sits the real thing: the largest surviving piece of that same altar's frieze, actual carved stone beside the painted sky.
