Bode-Museum

This guide to the Bode-Museum in Berlin follows James Simon, a Berlin textile merchant who gave away roughly a third of his income each year and filled this museum with hundreds of Renaissance and medieval artworks when it opened in 1904. It traces his financing of the Tell el-Amarna excavation in Egypt, which briefly brought a painted bust of Nefertiti into his own hands, and what happened to his name in these rooms after 1933. Listen for the quiet room just off the entrance hall, once known as the Simon Cabinet.
