Spanish Synagogue

This guide traces the Spanish Synagogue in Prague back to an 1860s split in the city's Jewish community, when reform-minded worshippers tore down the old prayer house on this site and rebuilt it in an unexpected style modeled on the Alhambra. Along the way you'll meet Frantisek Skroup, the choirmaster here in the 1830s who later composed the tune behind the Czech national anthem. Look up at the horseshoe arches and gilded stucco as you walk in.
