Maiden stone

This guide to the ruined castle known as Maiden Stone near Cesky Krumlov opens with a strange bit of bookkeeping: a 1501 inventory listing six brewing barrels but only six beds for a garrison once two dozen strong. It follows the fortress from its 1349 founding by the Rozmberk brothers through a century and a half of frontier housekeeping, to the one nobleman who ever lived here full-time, Oldrich II of Rozmberk, hiding out during a feud with his own son.
