Revolution Park

This guide to Revolution Park in Xi'an tells of the eight-month siege the warlord Liu Zhenhua laid on the city in nineteen twenty-six, when two local generals refused to surrender and hunger and disease spread inside the walls. It follows the survivors who, once the siege broke, carried sacks of yellow earth on their own shoulders to raise two mounds over the unclaimed dead. Records disagree on the exact toll, and no one ever went back to recount. Stand between the two mounds, one for the unnamed men, one for the unnamed women.
