Museum of Vancouver

This guide to the Museum of Vancouver traces the origin of the giant steel crab fountain guarding its entrance, from a 1960s design competition won by the reclusive sculptor George Norris to the Haida legend of a harbor guardian that inspired it. It follows welder Gus Lidberg building the twenty-foot creature near Main Street, and the unusual way it finally reached the museum grounds.
