Engine 374 Pavilion

This guide to Engine 374 in Vancouver traces the locomotive from its build in Montreal in 1886, through pulling the first transcontinental passenger train into the city in 1887 to cheering crowds, to nearly forty years rusting on Kitsilano Beach after its 1945 retirement. Volunteers in the early 1980s set out to save it, funding hand restoration on Granville Island partly by selling personalized bricks for nineteen dollars and eighty-six cents apiece.
