Mackenzie House

This guide to Mackenzie House in Toronto opens with a 1960 newspaper headline confessing that its famous ghost story, footsteps, a phantom pianist, a printing press starting up on its own, had been invented outright by a preservation group. It reaches back to the man behind the house, William Lyon Mackenzie, Toronto's first mayor and a newspaperman who led a failed rebellion in 1837, was exiled, and returned to die here in 1861.
