Colborne Lodge

This guide to Colborne Lodge in Toronto opens with a policeman on night patrol in the late 1960s, certain he has just seen a ghost in an upstairs window. It traces the story back to Jemima Howard, who lived here with her architect husband John George Howard from 1836, and how her illness in her final years led him to fit bars to a guest-room window and hire nurses to watch her around the clock. She died in the house in 1877, and John buried her in a tomb just across the road.
