Musée de l'Holocauste Montréal

This guide to the Musee de l'Holocauste Montreal centers on Edith Gluck, one of 530 Hungarian Jewish women sent from Auschwitz to a slave labor camp in Lippstadt, Germany, in July 1944. At night, after twelve-hour shifts on starvation rations, she secretly wrote recipes on scraps of paper scavenged from the factory floor, pot roast, stuffed cabbage, her grandmother's strudel, and stitched the pages into a hidden booklet with stolen orange thread. Other women in the barracks fed her their own family recipes from memory, nearly two hundred of them, copied down in pencil.
