Mahon Pool

Mahon Pool traces how Randwick alderman Patrick Mahon spent years pushing council to wall in the wild rock hole below Jack Vanny Reserve, aiming to give Depression-era Maroubra safe, shark-proof swimming and paid work for the unemployed. The guide follows his campaign through to his sudden collapse and death in September 1935, months before the pool he fought for was finished. It's still fed by the same tides that once poured over bare stone.
