Cremorne Reserve

Cremorne Reserve's tidal pool began as a private project by Fred Lane, an Olympic swimming champion who lived on the hill above and started dragging boulders into the shallows around 1900. The guide follows how a neighbour, Hugh Maccallum, spent fifteen years going door to door collecting funds and volunteer labour to finish it, and how North Sydney Council later honoured him for it. It traces the pool from its 1924 opening through the change of hands that followed.
