In February 2022, two activists smuggled swapped audio guides into Vienna's Weltmuseum, feeding visitors an alternate story about a towering headdress of green quetzal feathers said to have belonged to Moctezuma, the last true Aztec emperor. The guide traces the object's murky paper trail back to a 1596 Innsbruck inventory, Mexico's decades of requests for its return, and a joint Mexican-Austrian study of the feathers' fragile condition.
