Cua Ong Temple

This guide to Cua Ong Temple, on a hilltop above Ha Long Bay, centers on Tran Quoc Tang, third son of the Mongol-repelling general Tran Hung Dao, who spent years guarding this stretch of coast. It sets the scene on a stormy August night in 1311, when soldiers watched their commander walk out toward the wind tearing into the sea at Cua Suot. The guide also visits the shrine's upper hall, where more than thirty carved figures recreate his family and court in wood and gold leaf.
