Hamilton Viewpoint Park

This guide to Hamilton Viewpoint Park in Seattle rebuilds Luna Park, a twelve-acre amusement park driven on wooden pilings into the tide flats below, from its flashy 1907 opening billed as the greatest amusement park on the West Coast. It follows carousel carver Charles Looff, whose Great Figure Eight coaster and Giant Whirl ride drew nighttime crowds under thousands of electric bulbs, and the mounting injuries and infighting that dogged the operation. At night, thousands of electric bulbs once lit this shoreline bright enough to be seen from ships far out in the bay.
