Chicano Park Museum and Cultural Center

This guide to the Chicano Park Museum and Cultural Center in San Diego opens with Salvador Torres, a Barrio Logan native who lost his childhood home to the interstate and looked up at the bridge pylons left behind as a blank canvas. It follows the fight for the ground itself in 1970, when bulldozers arrived to pave a parking lot and student Mario Solis rallied neighbors into a human chain around the machines, planting trees in the dirt the state wanted paved.
