Alcázar Garden

This guide to the Alcazar Garden in Balboa Park, San Diego, traces its two names: Los Jardines de Montezuma for the 1915 exposition, then a redesign by architect Richard Requa for the 1935 fair, modeled on the royal gardens of Seville's Alcazar castle. It follows the star-shaped fountains and twenty-eight hand-glazed Moorish tile patterns Requa laid into the space, and the neighbors and garden clubs who later raised money to restore the cracked tilework and silent fountains.
