Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens

This guide to the Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens in Winter Park follows the Czech-born sculptor who arrived here in 1950 planning a quiet retirement, only to be paralyzed down one side by a stroke months later. Before the stroke, he had already crossed the ocean at twenty-two, trained in Philadelphia, won the Rome Prize, and spent decades running the sculpture department at the Art Institute of Chicago. Best heard walking slowly through the garden on the bend of Lake Osceola where he built his studio.
