The New York Historical

This guide to The New York Historical traces the gallery of Tiffany lamps upstairs back to Clara Driscoll, who ran the Women's Glass Cutting Department at Tiffany Studios starting in 1892 and designed several of the studio's most famous shades. It follows her letters home describing that work, and the collector, Egon Neustadt, who began buying the lamps for a few dollars apiece in the 1930s and eventually gave over a hundred to the museum. The wisteria shade alone took two thousand individual pieces of glass to assemble.
