Queens Museum

This guide to the Queens Museum's Panorama of the City of New York traces the model back to the 1964 World's Fair, when a dime bought visitors a ride aboard a helicopter car gliding over a scale replica of all five boroughs. It follows Robert Moses, who commissioned the piece, and the hundred workers who spent three years hand-building it in a warehouse in West Nyack. Stand at the railing and look for the tiny airplane that loops above the miniature airport.
