Peacock Park

This guide to Peacock Park in Miami follows Charles and Isabella Peacock, an English couple who landed on Biscayne Bay in 1875 with nothing and built the Bay View House, the first hotel on the bay, around 1882. You'll hear about the Bahamian workers who built it and stayed on to found Coconut Grove's Black community, and how the land passed from hotel to public park after the Peacocks sold up. Watch for the peacocks still strutting the lawn, the only original residents who never left.
