Suan Dok Gate

This guide to Suan Dok Gate in Chiang Mai's old city wall tells of the 1370s, when Lanna king Kue Na, awaiting a Buddha relic that split unexpectedly in two, decided the second piece would be placed by no human hand. He had it strapped to a white elephant and set the animal free at this very gate, to walk wherever it chose. The trail follows the road it took, past the gate rebuilt in brick since King Mengrai first raised these walls in the 1290s.
