Fort Siloso
Siloso Rd, Singapore 099981
Preserved coastal artillery fort with WWII gun emplacements, tunnels and a treetop skywalk.
For more than sixty years the guns of this fort faced out to sea, built to watch for enemy warships approaching Singapore's harbour. In the second week of February, nineteen forty-two, with Japanese forces advancing overland from the north instead, the gunners had to heave the heavy barrels a full one hundred eighty degrees to aim inland. The guide follows those final days at the only coastal fort Singapore kept, and what the gunners found once their guns were turned around.
