This guide to the Volvo Museum site at Arendal, on Gothenburg's Hisingen island, starts far from any factory: at a seafood restaurant in Stockholm in the summer of nineteen twenty-four, where a salesman and an engineer from the ball-bearing firm SKF sat down to dinner. It follows their idea to the factory gates here in the spring of nineteen twenty-seven. Jakob, a prototype named for the day it was finished, turns up too, as does the museum that stood here until twenty twenty-three.
