Kronstadt

This guide to Kronstadt in Saint Petersburg opens in March 1921, as sailors once hailed by Trotsky as heroes of the revolution turn against the Bolshevik government they helped bring to power. Roughly twenty-six thousand of them, backed by townspeople, demand free elections and an end to one-party rule, while the ice on the Gulf of Finland grows thick enough to carry an army.
