Фонтан "Дружба народов"

This guide to the Friendship of Nations fountain in Moscow counts the sixteen gilded bronze women ringing the water, each dressed for a different Soviet republic, and traces their unveiling in 1954 by sculptors Konstantin Topuridze and Grigory Konstantinovsky. It follows Ukraine's wheat, Georgia's grapes and Uzbekistan's cotton, and what happened just two years later when Moscow folded one of those sixteen republics back into Russia.
